whose a CO?

i'm glad to see this book reappear because it has a great description of the process of applying for CO status and how tricky that all can be. i had this experience in my youth and marshall's book has brought it all back. for example, he describes the nasty "Hitler" question that asks whether the applicant would take up arms against Hitler. and of course the applicant wants to say "yes" but if you do that you're NOT a pacifist and as marshall explains, that answer would get you a one-way ticket to Saigon. so how many real pacifists are out there? who has the guts to say i wouldn't take up arms again ANYONE under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES? nothing in our culture prepares us to answer a question like that.
