Booktrope Update

Wed, 2012-04-25 10:22

A major site update for Booktrope.com is coming soon, with more books and more new features.  Watch for it!

Booktrope was chosen as number one startup among 60 contestents in the Northwest Entrepreneurs Network First Look Forum.  This event showcases new businesses from the Pacific Northwest and we were gratified to receive this honor from the investor audience.

Foreword Magazine has selected two Booktrope books as finalists for their book of the year awards.  Terry Persun's Cathedral of Dreams was chosen as a finalist in the science fiction category and Nicole Persun's A Kingdom's Possession was chosen as a finalist in the fantasy category.   It's a truly extraordinary accomplishment for Nicole, who was only 17 when we published her book.  It's also remarkable to see a father and daughter both receiving this honor in the same year.  For more info about these awards, click here

Big news about Booktrope titles:

Tess Hardwick's Riversong has reached number one -- yes the top best selling book -- on the Nook (as of 10-1-11) and it's still high on the Nook bestseller list.  You can find Riversong for just $2.99 in the Nook store at Barnes and Noble.  You can also find Riversong in the Amazon Kindle store for $2.99.   Or you can read Riverson here at Booktrope.com for free.  If you haven't delved into Tess Hardwick's blog, Inspiration for Ordinary Life, you're missing something very special and a great deal of fun.

Heather Huffman's Throwaway, now available for FREE in the Kindle Store.  Great romantic suspense, Throwaway has been as high as number 2 most popular among free Kindle titles.  Of course you can read Throwaway for free here at Booktrope.com.  Heather's Suddenly a Spy is here on Booktrope to read for free, or you can buy a copy for Kindle or Nook for $2.99.

By the way, most Booktrope Editions and Libertary Editions books are also available in the Kindle and Nook stores; fiction is priced at $2.99 or less, and nonfiction at reasonable prices (and all these books continue of course to be available to read here at Booktrope.com for free).  Many of the books on this site are from other publishers besides Booktrope; Kindle and Nook pricing and availability are, of course, up to the publisher of those books.

For example, Nicole Persun's thrilling fantasy, A Kingdom's Possession, is avaialble for 99 cents on Kindle or Nook, and Terry Persun's exciting science fiction,  Cathedral of Dreams, is also available for 99 cents on Kindle or Nook.

More cool stuff from the Booktrope Community:

A terrific interview with Invisible Ink and Golden Theme author Brian McDonald on Portland's The Karl Show Starring Jason - and if you haven't looked at Brian's Invisible ink Blog, try it for terrific insight into writing and filmmaking.

Our first book trailer -- for The Day the Dogs Talked is up on Youtube

Check out the interview with Booktrope's publisher on Authornomics blog from Andrea Hurst & Associates, and another one in the Interview with a Publsher series on Michael Larocca's blog

Booktrope Authors Recognized:

Tess Hardwick's Riversong went to #1 on the Amazon Kindle "Movers and Shakers" list on June 18, and continues to be very popular on e-readers. (Like most of the books published by Booktrope, it's available on Kindle, Nook, and at itunes; many of our fiction titles are available as ebooks for $2.99, and still of course available to read for free here.)

Brian McDonald is speaking at Trickster, a symposium on storytelling in art (and an amazing pop-up store), on July 22 in San Diego.  We're pre-releasing his new book, Freeman - a Novella in Screeplay Form, at Trickster where Brian will be signing copies of Freeman, as well as Invisible Ink and The Golden Theme.

Lark Eden, our first Theatertrope play by Natalie Symons, has several upcoming professional productions, the next one at the New American Theater in Tampa Bay on July 21-24 and July 29-31.  Click here for a review of this performance.  If you're near enough to get to Tampa Bay, get a ticket here.

Team Publishing:
Check out our new Booktropepublishing site, where we provide more info about our Team Publishing website and how we work with authors, editors, designers and book marketing people. It also has a new Booktrope blog.

And, as always, several new books and more on the way:

Two by Hazard Adams: The Day the Dogs Talked, a modern fable with delightful illustrations by Dana Sullivan (newly published) and a reprint, The Truth About Dragons first published in 1970, in which a modern dragon living in the hills above Santa Barbara tells his side of the story.  Hazard is a remarkable man, author or editor of over 30 books, including several novels and leading critical works on the poetry of William Blake, William Butler Yeats, and others.

Thank You for Flying Air Zoe, a chicklit romp, with a heroine who's old enough to know bettter and young enought to do it anyway.  The first novel by Erik Atwell is a fun summer read.

Coming soon:  The Kingdom's Possession by Nicole J. Persun, fantasy from a talented new 17-year old author, who you'll be hearing about for many years to come.

Primary Sources - Poetry from Ann Staley

The Key to Everything - a wild horror / thriller from Alex Kimmell

Cathedral of Dreams - Science fiction from Terry Persun

and too many more to mention here!

  • Riversong by Tess Hardwick, women's contemporary fiction that will entertain and inspire
  • Sweet Song by Terry Persun, A novel of racial conflict and self-discovery, this tale of a mixed race man passing as white in post-Civil War America speaks from the heart about where we’ve come from and who we are.
  • Other great books by Terry Persun: Giver of Gifts, The Witness Tree, Deception Creek
  • Paula Coomer's collection of short stories, Summer of Government Cheese

If you haven't been here for a bit, you'll notice that Libertary has changed its name to Booktrope. Why? We needed a name that better reflected our business direction and wasn’t quite as confusing.

We're also very pleased to announce that Katherine Sears has joined the core Booktrope team, with a focus on business development and marketing. We are growing fast-- many more books, many more readers and many more people involved.

Update on our books:  We've added lots of new books, including:

and more!

We're publishing several more books in the next few months under our own imprints, including more novels, plays, and poetry. There are many more books in the pipeline, so stay tuned for updates!

Theatertrope: One of the reasons we changed our name is to allow us room for growth into some new areas. One of these is Theatertrope, which will address the need for a new way to produce and market plays. Among other features, plays on Theatertrope will be available royalty-free for qualifying student productions and qualifying non-profit organizations. We will be connecting playwrights with performers as well as helping expose fine new plays to wider audiences. Our first Theatertrope offering will be Lark Eden by Natalie Symons, available very soon.

Keep your eye on Booktrope and the other offerings in the trope family of websites!
