According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Spotted_Owl), there were 3000-5000 pairs left in the western US but the article is sloppy and you can't tell the date -- probably 2007 it looks like. They say only about 100 pairs in Canada. Also the estimate is given that it's declining by about 3.7 percent each year. Source of these statistics aren't very clear. Wikipedia is great but can you rely on these figures? ONly if you aren't too very persnickety about knowing where they're from.
