Remembering the Game

If there ever was a book to capture the spirit and nostalgia of baseball, this one is it! Although I have a few points to pick in one or two of the stories, they're really quite minor. Sherman Alexie's and Lynda Barry's stories are just superb. Great read, thanks!

Good so far!
Honestly I've never really liked baseball that much. I've never exactly disliked it either, but it's always seemed like a lot of standing around to me. I've read the first five essays, and so far I really like what I'm reading. Sherman Alexie's name was what piqued my interest in the book, and for good reason: His essay is artfully crafted and enjoyable, like most of his writing. Even though Alexie was the name I read for, I think Lynda Barry's essay is excellent (in a painful, bittersweet sort of way) and it's probably my favorite at this point. I also love the girls' little league essay, "From the Church of Baseball: Different Hymns". It's delightfully funny and sweet, and the life lessons are pretty invaluable, especially for people living in the Pacific Northwest. Side note: Having nine essays for the nine innings of the game is a fun choice by the editor. Looking forward to finishing the book this weekend.

I Agree
I agree, I like Barry's story tremendously. However, Marshall's story hit closest to home for me.

I can't say I enjoyed
I can't say I enjoyed baseball as a kid but I thought I'd give it a shot. Some great stories!
