John Douglas Marshall takes leave of his career as a journalist to examine the legacy of his grandfather, the military historian S.L.A. Marshall, whose reputation and findings from the field of battle were challenged after his death. His research draws him across the country, as he pores over his grandfather's vast archives and memorabilia, reconnects with family and friends, and revisits his opposition to the Vietnam War, which caused an agonizing family breach.

About Author:

John Douglas Marshall's memoir, Reconciliation Road won a Governor's Writers Award in Washington State. Douglas is also the author of Place of Learning, Place of Dreams: A History of Seattle Public Library, editor and contributor to the anthology Home Field: Nine Writers at Bat, and co-author of Volcano: The Eruption of Mount St. Helens, a New York Times bestseller. Marshall was a longtime staff writer at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer until it ceased publication in 2009. He lives in Seattle.
