Anyone can tell that this book is carefully researched and that Kathie Durbin has amassed a huge store of facts about the battle over logging in Oregon. I would like to see a book that looks more closely at the people who have been lost their jobs and their way of life because of environmental movements like this one. It must feel grand to be a tree-hugger and worry about owls and forests, but there are thousands of people who counted on logging to support their families, whose communities have died, and who have never found another way to live. They are less expendable, in my opinion, than the spotted owl. Maybe we have a better idea now about how precious jobs are and how hard it is to replace them when they're lost.
